Note: This feature is available only to administrators and to inventory assistants with permission to edit product data.
Characteristics are a product's recorded physical properties, and include the following:
Physical State: The physical state of the product at room temperature: Solid, Liquid, or Gas.
Specific Gravity: Ratio of the product's density to the density of water (for liquids and solids) or air (for gases).
Flash Point: The lowest temperature at which the product gives off an ignitable vapor.
Density: The product's mass per unit volume.
VOC: Proportion of the product's chemical makeup that qualifies as one or more volatile organic compounds.
Vapor Density: Ratio of the density of any vapor released by the product to the density of air or hydrogen.
Edit a product's characteristics when you need to enter or change a product's recorded data for any of the properties above. When you save your changes, they become visible to any user viewing the product's primary information.
To edit a product's characteristics:
Starting at the Product Information page
Click the EDIT button at the top of the display.
Note: This button appears only when you are logged in as a) an administrator, or b) an inventory assistant with permission to edit product data.
The Information Administration page opens, showing the areas of product data you can edit.
In the Modify Indexes area, click Characteristics.
The Characteristics display shows the product's current recorded characteristics.
Using the menus and fields provided, edit the product's characteristics as desired. If a characteristic's operator is anything other than Range, enter its value in the High field and leave the Low field blank; if an operator is Range, enter the range's high value in the High field and the low value in the Low field.
Note: If you need to refer to the product's MSDS, click [View MSDS] in the upper right to open the product's MSDS in a new window.
Click Save in the lower right.
The new characteristics are saved. Your changes are now visible to any user viewing the product's primary information.
